Today in the Power Point part of class we began the physiology of the respiratory system: the mechanics of breathing. The technique of spirometry was introduced and demonstrated with the classroom apparatus. We also viewed short movies on the processes of gas exchange and the physical mechanism of breathing. We reinforced this in the lab with student measurements of tidal volume, vital capacity, and expiratory reserve capacity.
